PAWS Girl Scouts Program
PAWS is excited to offer programming for Girl Scout troops! The following programs have been designed by a local Girl Scout as part of her Bronze Award project:
Daisies:
- 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals (Birdbath Leadership Award)
- Animal Observer Badge
Brownies:
- Pets Badge
Juniors:
- Digital Photography Badge
- Animal Habitats Badge
Cadettes:
- Animal Helpers Badge
Each program will last approximately 2 hours. Cost is $3 per scout and includes a fun patch! If your troop is interested in participating in a badge program at Centre County PAWS, please email education@centrecountypaws.org
PAWS Reading Program
We are seeking cat-loving, bookworm kids (1st to 5th graders) for the PAWS Reading Program! The program will run over the course of a month on Mondays with two sessions available: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Reading to cats serves to socialize the cats and provide a non-judgmental reading environment for kids to develop their literacy skills.
Each child will be paired with a cat reading buddy to get to know and cheer on as they search for their forever home. In addition to reading, children will do an enrichment activity with the cats.
Registration is on a rolling basis for an upcoming monthly session; sessions will typically be scheduled two months in advance (more information below).

After you register your child(ren), a PAWS volunteer will reach out when there is an opening. Our cats are looking forward to meeting their reading buddies!
FAQ:
How does the rolling registration work?
PAWS will typically schedule sessions two months in advance (e.g., at the beginning of May, PAWS will notify those signed up for the July session). Children will be signed up based on the order in which their registrations are received. The children next in line would be offered slots for the next month or if there is a cancellation. While PAWS understands that unplanned absences can occur, we ask that you can commit to at least 3 out of the four weeks before accepting the invitation to participate that month.
It is late spring/summer, how do I list the grade that my child(ren) is in?
The form will indicate what school year the grade should be based on.
When can I expect to hear back from PAWS?
We will do our best to schedule as many children as possible for each session, and we ask for your patience since space is extremely limited and we want to create the best experience for the kids and cats.
What if you contact me and we are not available that month?
Your child(ren) will remain at the top of the list to be offered a slot for the next month.
We agreed to a month, but our schedule changed and we cannot attend. What do we do?
Please reach out to the volunteer whom you have been in contact with (or email education@centrecountypaws.org). If you cancel the Thursday before the first Monday of the month, your child(ren) will be offered a spot when the next session is scheduled. No-shows will not be automatically added to the rolling registration list; parents would have to re-register their child(ren).
Can my child(ren) participate more than once in the PAWS Reading Program?
Yes. We ask that if you are scheduled for a session that you wait until the session ends to sign back up.
Can my other kids who are not eligible for the program accompany their sibling to PAWS?
Younger/older siblings are welcome to spend the hour in the PAWS lobby or other designated spaces with their parents, but we ask that only one parent accompany the child(ren) registered for the program as they are reading to the cats due to space limitations.
