When did you start volunteering at PAWS? 2010 (after I retired)
What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS? I am a Cat Care volunteer on a weekly basis, which
means I help feed, scoop, clean cages and give medications to our in-house cats. Also, I am a Cat Care
Shift Leader, teach Cat Care training, Mentor scheduling and Training scheduling.
What do you currently do as a volunteer? I am a Cat Care Shift Leader on Tuesday mornings; working with a terrific group of volunteers. Recently, I have begun to teach a Cat Care training class the first Tuesday evening of each month. This class usually last 2 – 3 hrs; the people who attend this class want to become a Cat Care volunteer. Also, I manage the scheduling of our new cat care trainee’s mentor session, which is part of the training process.
Why do you volunteer at PAWS? I have a love of cats (animals in general) and it gives me a feeling of
giving back. Caring for our abandon and lost cats and knowing that I (and all of our wonderful
volunteers) give these poor souls some much needed love and a feeling of being safe.
When you’re not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time? I enjoy watercolor painting along
with many crafting projects; such as, wool needle felting, working with polymer clay, wreath making,
etc… Spring and Summer you kind find me planting flowers and taking care of my many different
planting areas. Bird watching is a passion of mine.
What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? Hands on interaction with our cats and working with people who are passionate about providing shelter and finding homes for abandoned animals.
If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give? They would be helping to give many cats and dogs a chance to live. We are a non-euthanasia animal shelter.
