When did you start volunteering at PAWS?
I started volunteering in February 2020, just before the pandemic started. And thankfully so, because volunteer shifts were the perfect opportunity to get out of the house for a few when I couldn’t go anywhere else!
What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS?
I am a dog care volunteer, and I have also fostered dogs! (And of course ended up adopting one!)
What do you currently do as a volunteer?
I’m currently a dog care volunteer, and a Friday night shift leader.
Why do you volunteer at PAWS?
I started volunteering as a way to de-stress from my work week, while also giving back to the local community. My shifts have become my favorite part of the week, and now volunteering is what I do for fun with my free time!
When you're not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time?
My favorite thing to do is to go on hikes with my puppy, Moose! (Known as Jiro at PAWS- he was rescued back in June after being hit by a car.) I also enjoy reading and watching documentaries. I’m looking forward to post-covid times when I can again travel to see friends and family who don’t live in the area!
What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? What do you find to be the most rewarding?
The best part of being a volunteer is the friendships that I have made - both human and canine! It has been amazing meeting so many people who share the interest in dogs and giving back to the community - and also being able to help so many dogs in need of love and a good home. My whole experience at PAWS has been so rewarding, but the most rewarding part is when I get to build a special bond with one of the animals. (Like my best bud Dobby!)
If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give?
If you’re thinking about volunteering at PAWS (or anywhere really) - do it! It’s definitely the best decision that I’ve ever made!
