Role at PAWS
I primarily work on the cat side of PAWS, making sure they live in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. This includes cleaning and disinfecting rooms, feeding and administering medicine, and making sure the cats get daily enrichments through toys, lick mats, etc.

I have been working at PAWS through Penn State work study for a year and 2 months.
Your pets at home
Currently, I only have a 3-year-old Bully named Wynnie, who has been with us since she was born!
Favorite thing about PAWS?
My favorite thing about PAWS is being able to work with like-minded individuals who love the animals they work with just as much as I do. They make working at PAWS so enjoyable. I also really enjoy meeting all the cats that come in. Each has a different personality, and being able to interact and learn their likes and dislikes makes every shift feel unique and rewarding. It’s so fulfilling to help them feel safe and comfortable while they wait to find their homes, and knowing that I get to play even a small role in their journey makes my time at PAWS incredibly meaningful.
What advice would you give to people interested in working or volunteering for PAWS?
Don’t be afraid to approach cats. Of course, always pay attention to the signals they give you if they’re scared or nervous, but you’ll never get to know a cat’s true personality if you’re too afraid to interact with them. I’ve met cats who seemed fractious at first but ended up being the most cuddly and affectionate once they felt safe and understood.
What you can usually be found doing outside of work?
Outside of work I really enjoy playing board or card games. I recently learned and bought a board game called Catan, which I 10/10 recommend!
What is your perfect vacation?
My perfect vacation would be in Greece! I have always wanted to live there in the future, but I have only seen it through photos. I am actually planning a trip to Cyprus over the summer before going to vet school!
