April Volunteer of the Month: Wendy Roe

April 13, 2021

When did you start volunteering at PAWS?

August 2019

What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS?

Cat care volunteer, cat care shift leader. cat care mentoring, and social media author

What do you currently do as a volunteer?

Social media author but once settled in after moving to New Hampshire, I'd like to take other "work from home" opportunities as they arise

Why do you volunteer at PAWS?

I got to know PAWS through the adoption of Petey in July 2016. At that time my husband and I still had one cat, Dorian, living with us. Petey was not a fan of him. When Dorian passed away in Feb 2019 I missed playing with a cat. By the end of the summer I signed up for cat care training so I could come meet some new feline friends.

When you're not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time?

Garden, walk the streets of Bellefonte with Petey, read, bake desserts to share

What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? What do you find to be the most rewarding?

There are many things that make being a PAWS volunteer rewarding. A few bests in no particular order...

1. Helping animals find a loving forever home

2. All the great staff and volunteers. It breaks my heart that I am moving away and will only get to interact with everyone online.

3. Being part of an organization that is helping animals and the community.

If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give?

PAWS is like a family and we all try to help another independent of animal, i.e. human, cat, dog. It's a great place to meet a lifetime companion.
