What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS?

I have been a floor volunteer and an adoption counselor in the cat wing.

What do you currently do as a volunteer?

I currently volunteer as both a floor volunteer and as an adoption counselor on the cat side, depending on what is needed during the shift. As a floor volunteer, I help people find the right cat(s) for their family. I recently began my new role in completing the adoption process as a counselor. You can also find me jumping around and making funny noises behind the camera as one of our volunteers Marcia tries to take photos of the kitties for our website.

Why do you volunteer at PAWS?

I volunteer at PAWS because my first adoption experience was so amazing that I knew I needed to be a part of this group. They helped me find my best friend, and I wanted to help other people have that same type of experience.

When you're not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time?

I’m currently a PhD student in theoretical chemistry, which occupies most of my time. When I’m not working, I love cooking Louisiana food and dancing, especially west coast swing.

What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? What do you find to be the most rewarding?

My favorite part of being a PAWS volunteer is helping people find the cat that fits into their family. I love getting to know all of our cats and their unique personalities and then seeing people fall in love with them. Knowing that I helped them find the right home is what makes me come back week after week.

If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give?

I would say that volunteering at PAWS makes me feel like I’m making a difference in our community and interacting with people in a way that brings them (and me) joy. I can’t think of a better way to spend my weekends!
