Meet Maura Shea, our October Volunteer of the Month!

When did you start volunteering at PAWS?

I started in January 2014.

What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS?

I’ve been a cat core care volunteer. I’ve also filled in as shift leader once or twice but that was unofficial.

What do you currently do as a volunteer?

I do cat care on Saturday mornings.

Why do you volunteer at PAWS?

My daughter Claire (Pictured with Maura) got me started. She loves animals and needs 30 hours a year of community service for the Delta Program. She loves dogs, but as her designated chaperone, I said that we had to work with cats.

When you’re not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time?

Teaching film production at Penn State takes up a lot of my time. My husband Rod and I also try to find time to do our own creative projects. I also like to watch films, hang out and travel with my family.

What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? What do you find to be the most rewarding?

We have no pets at home, because we just aren’t home enough, so volunteering gives me much needed pet time. It’s also a great group of people. It’s been fun getting to know people outside of work.

If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give?

You can give a little time or a lot and either way you’ll get a lot back — appreciation from the animals and the people!
