Meet Julia Mitchell, our September Volunteer of the Month!

When did you start volunteering at PAWS?

I began volunteering at PAWS in 2013 with my son, who was completing a volunteer project for school.

What jobs/roles have you performed at PAWS?

I started as a dog walker and transporting dogs to veterinary appointments. My family and I fostered dogs, then I began working as an adoption counselor.

What do you currently do as a volunteer?

Now I am an adoption counselor.

Why do you volunteer at PAWS?

Our community and the animals who are a part of it are so fortunate to have PAWS. Working together, all the volunteers and staff make PAWS a sanctuary for cats and dogs in need of a home. There is something for everyone who wants to help at PAWS, regardless of the amount of time you have available.

When you're not at PAWS, what do you like to do with your time?

When I'm not at PAWS, I enjoy reading, walking my dogs, and exploring the Finger Lakes region of New York with my family.

What do you like best about being a PAWS volunteer? What do you find to be the most rewarding?

PAWS has a strong sense of mission and the volunteers and staff work together toward the common goal of placing cats and dogs in appropriate, forever homes. I love adoption days--there's nothing like seeing a happy family leaving with a happy dog!

If someone asked you why they should volunteer at PAWS, what answer would you give?

Volunteering at PAWS is a wonderful way to be a part of an organization with a clear and important purpose. In addition, your fellow volunteers and staff will enrich your life with their friendship and dedication to the cats and dogs in their care.
